Women’s Council Elections & Electorates 2006
Women's Council has been in existence since 1930 and has fought for a wide range of issues of benefit to women members, such as:
- protection of women's interests in award restructuring;
- protection against sex-based harassment and discrimination;
- pay equity;
- permanency;
- part-time work;
- work related childcare; and
- family friendly work practices.
All women members of the PSA are automatically members of Women's Council and are able to attend Council meetings. A Committee of Management is elected by women members to carry out the work of Women's Council. All women members can stand for a position on this Committee.
The Women's Council is broken into electorates, with the number of representatives for each determined by the number of members in the electorate. If more members nominate than there are places then a ballot is held in that electorate.
The Women's Council Committee in turn elects a Steering Committee. The Steering Committee consists of a Chair, Vice Chair, Honorary Secretary, Assistant Secretary and up to four others.
The Women's Council Committee meets each month, except January, July and September at 5.30 pm at PSA House. (The Annual Women's Conference is held in September).
The Steering Committee meets by teleconference a fortnight prior to the Women's Council Committee.
If you would like to find out more about Women's Council before nominating, please give the Women's Unit a call on (02) 9220 0906 or email women@psa.asn.au.
