NSW electricity industry & redundancy packages

Date: 10 October 97
Author: Public Service Association of NSW

Redundancy packages in the NSW electricity industry differ from corporation to corporation.

Pacific Power and Transgrid follow the NSW public sector package, and as such will follow the new package. Please note that neither are currently offering packages.

Delta and Macquarie have their own packages, which are higher rate one-off packages and these are currently on offer. They are a bit better than the new sector wide package.

The Hogg Committee, which recommended privatisation of the power industry, recommended that a redundancy package of 4 weeks for each year of service be offered at the time of privatisation of each corporation .

Treasurer/Energy Ministry, Michael Egan has said the Government will adopt that recommendation. It will only apply at the time of privatisation.

Privatisation is not ALP policy, and ALP Annual Conference has just resoundingly reaffirmed that.

Privatisation is not PSA policy, nor is the promotion of redundacies. Our attitude is that if cuts cannot be prevented, then the compensation to members losing their jobs should be as good as we can get.
