School Staff to stop work

Date: 09 October 97
Author: Public Service Association of NSW

School Administrative and Support Staff will stop work on Friday morning of 17th October.

They will attend meetings at 150 sites across NSW to hear reports on their salary claim and to vote on recommendations for industrial action. They will be addressed via Sky Channel by General Secretary, Janet Good and Senior Vice President, Sue Walsh.

The Department of School Education has not made an offer on a new School Administrative and Support Staff Award. The enterprise agreement's expiry date was June 30. Negotiations have been going on for months, but no offer has been forthcoming. The PSA finally told them to make an offer by October 3, or we would consider an industrial campaign. Still no offer was forthcoming.

The PSA claim is for 20 percent and we have made it clear that will not accept less than was awarded in the Public Sector Salaries Award a few months ago.

The stop work meeting will be between 9:00am and 11:00am. The Sky Channel broadcast will be for about half and hour, from 9:30am. After the broadcast members will be asked to vote on recommendations and similar results to the tally room in Sydney. The details of venues will be faxed to schools on Tuesday October 14.
