Senior Federal Industrial Officers wanted

Our federal union, the Community & Public Sector Union (State Public Service Federation Group) has established two new positions as a result of changes including the relocation of the federal office. The SPSF Group has over 100,000 members working across Australia in the various State public sectors and some private sector areas.

The Senior Federal Industrial Officers will take leading roles in industrial representation of members' interests and the development and promotion of the Group's policies and organisational objectives and will contribute to the work of other industrial staff at State and Federal level.

One position is to be located in the Federal Office in Sydney and the other in Melbourne.

Criteria

  • Extensive experience and skills in preparing cases, negotiating and advocacy.
  • High level analytical and research skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated skills at a high level in oral and written communication.
  • Sound knowledge of industrial relations legislation and practices.
  • Good understanding of public sector industrial issues.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to trade union principles.
Duties

Responsible to the Federal Secretary for:

  • Preparation and presentation of industrial claims through negotiations and advocacy before industrial relations tribunals;
  • Industrial and policy work, including research, preparation of submissions and reports, attendance at meetings and enquiries;
  • Liaison with and advice to staff and officers in the States;
  • Liaison with the ACTU and other unions and bodies;
  • Promoting membership and delegate involvement in the Union.
Employment Conditions

Salary and allowances $62,396 to $65,042, superannuation and conditions generally in line with public sector conditions. The Group aims to provide a family friendly working environment.
