Date: 14 March 97
Author: Public Service Association of NSW

Doctors at meetings around NSW have unanimously voted to stay on strike. Essential services will be maintained while simultaneously broadening the campaign to against restrictions on Medicare Provider Numbers which will prevent 400 trained doctors from entering General Practice each year.

The meetings again called on the Howard Government to enter into meaningful negotiations on a package of positive measures which will improve the health system while allowing all doctors access to training, provider numbers and viable medical careers.

The meetings thanked the Australian Medical Association (NSW), Australian Salaried Medical Officers Federation, Australian Association of Surgeons, NSW Labor Council, Doctors Reform Society and the Private Doctors of Australia for their support, and asked them to meet with the PSA to co-ordinate their support and escalating action.

The doctors also called upon the PSA Allied Health Branches, Nurses Association, Health & Research Employees Association and othe health unions to meet with the PSA to consider supportive action.
