Manual Handling Conference, 1 - Day Conference - 28 May 200805 May 2008Government, Administration and Education Note: On the previous day, May 27 there is a Manual Handling Conference for Health and Community Services Sectors. An essential forum for OHS professionals, Managers and Supervisors in the NSW Public Sector and Education Sectors presented by WorkCover in partnership with the Government, Administration and Education Industry Reference Group. Conference OverviewManual Handling is any activity that involves lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving, holding or restraining. It also includes sustained and awkward postures or repetitive movements.Manual Handling is the most common cause of injury in NSW being indicated in 37 percent of major injuries in NSW. With approximately 17,000 workers compensation claims each year the cost of musculoskeletal injuries is a major imposition on NSW businesses. These costs also extend to workers and the community, where financial and non-financial impacts are felt. These conferences are designed to look at a holistic approach to Manual Handling and provide participants with knowledge on the prevention and management of manual handling related incidents and injuries. The conference sessions will cover risk management, case studies, injury management, workshops and a panel discussion.
