Local Court delegates ban use of private vehicles

17 April 2008

The Petty Sessions Officers’ Association last month recommended that employees refuse to use private vehicles for work.

General Secretary John Cahill has agreed with the request and authorised the ban.

The "ban" has been imposed because Local Court employees who have had to use their private cars are being reimbursed at the casual rate, not the official business rate to which they are entitled under the award.

The matter has been raised with departmental management. They are investigating. They have not come back with an answer.

The ban will continue until employees are paid the correct rate.

The resolution unanimously passed by the Petty Sessions delegates and endorsed by the General Secretary says:

"That the General Secretary of the NSW PSA authorise the following ban for staff employed in Local Courts throughout NSW.

That Local Court Employees do not use their own personal vehicle for travel to courts other than their own headquarters. That they do not use their own personal vehicle unless one of the seven Senior Registrars or an Assistant Director provides to that officer in writing a letter or email Specifically authorising the use of the private motor vehicle and guaranteeing to pay the official business rate."
