University General Staff Endorse 9% National Pay Claim

02 April 2008

Union delegates from throughout Australia today (Wednesday 2 April) unanimously endorsed a national campaign seeking a nine per cent per annum pay increase for University General Staff.

The union covering general staff, the Community and Public Sector Union (SPSF branch), said the claim would also seek to re-instate conditions removed by the previous Federal Government.

CPSU Joint National Secretary, Mr David Carey, said the claim would now be put to meetings of representatives of more than 40,000 General Staff at Universities throughout Australia.

"We will ask our members to vote on clauses that include delivering work-life balance into the workplace and also return career advancement provisions removed by the previous government", said Mr Carey.

The CPSU expects University employers will work cooperatively with the union to pursue this positive agenda which will improve the outlook of the higher education sector.

"We as a union will be working hard to strengthen the voice and profile of general staff workers at Universities in this round of enterprise bargaining negotiations," said Mr Carey.

General Staff include all administrative and non-academic staff in Universities. For interviews contact David Carey - 0418 233 923
