Union welcomes job cuts turnaround05 April 2007The Public Service Association of NSW today welcomed Opposition leader Barry O’Farrell’s decision to scrap the policy of cutting 20,000 public sector jobs. "Finally the Liberal party have come to their senses and realised that cutting 20,000 frontline support workers would have a devastating impact on service delivery to the people of NSW," said assistant general secretary of the PSA Steve Turner. "We fought a long hard battle to protect public sector workers in the 18 months leading up to the state election and we welcome the commitment from Mr O'Farrell to dump job cuts." "Our members need more support, not less and we will to continue to campaign over the term of the next government to secure quality jobs for our members and better services for the NSW community." "The message from the voting public on March 24 was very clear - the people of NSW want better services, not job cuts." "Both sides of politics should think twice before considering any cuts to the public sector."
