Sunday April 22 “Rockin For Rights” Concert & March20 February 2007Unions NSW is organising a major march from Hyde Park, Sydney, to the Sydney Cricket Ground. This will be followed by a three hour concert at the cricket ground. The march and concert may be the last major Your Rights at Work events before the Federal Elections. Our aim is to reinforce the support for the overthrow of Howard's WorkChoices legislation, and draw new participants into the campaign. These events are in the weekend before the ALP's 44th National Conference, so we want it to be a reminder to ALP delegates and workers, as well as a reminder to the Howard Government that we are going to destroy Howard's extremely unfair laws. The marchers will assemble in Hyde Park from about 10.30 am. From there they will march to the cricket ground, after which people can go to the concert or wander off. The concert will start at 1.00 pm. Entry to the concert will by purchasing a $5 hospital-style wristband, i.e. one that can only be cut off. Small kids will be admitted free (but the age cut-off is yet to be decided). We are ticketing partly because the SCG insists on it for crowd control & safety reasons, and to recover some of the costs. A stack of performers have indicated their support for the concert and will perform for free. We cannot tell you who they are at this stage - we have to wait until they have signed, and in many cases the appearances cannot be promoted until current commitments are completed. However we can say it's a very impressive line-up which will appeal to all ages and tastes. We want a crowd of 40,000, -- 30,000 in the stands and 10,000 on the grass. We will publish further information on ticketing, who's performing, etc, as it becomes available. Contact Details Les Carr Ph: 02 9220 0939 |
