Fisheries Officers re-evaluations lead to pay rises

16 March 2005

Fisheries delegates have been negotiating for three years to have Fisheries Officer positions evaluated due to changes in responsibilities and accountabilities. In December the Department of Primary Industries finally agreed to re-evaluate the positions.

The evaluations resulted in pay increases for every Fisheries Officer classification. The increases were between 9.5% and 29.3%.

A ballot of Fisheries Officers was held by e-mail. 72 of the 108 Fisheries Officers responded with the result being that the offer of new salaries for Fisheries officers be accepted. The vote was 72-0 in favour of acceptance.

The Department of Primary Industries has lodged an award variation to reflect the new salaries with the NSW Industrial Relations Commission. No other variations will be sought.

PSA Central Council on Monday endorsed the proposed variation to the Crown Employees (NSW Fisheries Salaries and Conditions of Employment) Award.
