DADHC: Rates of pay for casual and temporary employees

17 November 2004

Previous advice on pay rates for casual and temporary employees was issued to PSA members in July 2004. At that time a decision by the Department to reduce the rates of pay for some casual and temporary staff was overturned following intervention by the PSA.

These employees had their rates of pay restored and were given six months to have their competencies assessed.

Detailed advice has recently been issued by the Department to ensure that all casual and temporary employees are aware of their entitlements.

Some important information that members should be aware of are as follows. If you are:

  • a casual or temporary employee and have suffered a reduction in pay over the past nine months and you have had two years' service as at 5 July 2004, then your pay should be restored and backpaid - contact your HR Manager if this applies to you.

  • the maintenance of pay rates for casual and temporary staff who do not possess the Certificate III competencies expires on 20 December 2004.

If you have requested to be assessed and the Department has been unable to provide the assessment, then the 20 December deadline will be extended.

All casual and temporary employees who have not already done so should advise the Department of their intent to undertake assessment no later than 19 November 2004 to receive an extension on the 20 December deadline.

You must contact your Regional Businesslink HR Manager or Regional Learning & Development Officer to register.
