Nursing Staff & Students Protest Faculty Closure

Student nurses, academic and general staff at Sydney University’s Faculty of Nursing will stage a protest in the foyer of the faculty building today (11June).

The rally against the exiling of nursing from Sydney University will begin at 2.00pm at the Faculty of Nursing at 88 Mallet Street, Camperdown.

The staff are members if the Community & Public Sector Union (the PSA's federal union) and the National Tertiary Education Union..

Under the Sydney University plan future students will be directed to the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the Australian Catholic University (ACU). HOWEVER there is no guarantee that the staff in the faculty will be transferred. ACU is reported to be planning to take the extra students without taking any of the staff.
