Public Prosecutors to stop work tomorrow

07 May 2003

The PSA is in dispute with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions over staffing levels.

PSA members at the ODPP's Sydney office, prosecutors and other staff, will hold a stop work meeting tomorrow morning on the steps of the Downing Centre District Court.

They will hear a report on proceedings before the NSW Industrial Relation Commission yesterday and today, and other negotiations with the ODPP.

The stop work meeting will begin at 9.30 am. The PSA expects members will resume work later in the morning..

Yesterday before the Commission the PSA expressed our disappointment at the lack of progress since we last reported on 14 April.

The PSA reported our belief that the ODPP has given up on attempting to obtain more staffing for the Office in the foreseeable future.

We asked Justice Glynn to conciliate in the matter. As a result, a conciliation conference will take place at 4.15pm this afternoon.

Her Honour was informed that our members intend to stop work tomorrow.

The PSA believes that our members are justified in the frustration and anger that is felt at the failure of the ODPP and Treasury to effectively progress this matter.
