DOCS -- plenty of money for another unwanted boss

23 January 1999

DOCS for several years has been crucifying its front-line troops.

The disastrous lack of morale and staff and resources, coupled with highly overpaid, incompetent senior management is pretty well acknowledged by all, except the highly overpaid incompetent senior management.

To camouflage incompetence and mismanagement, the buck is inevitably passed down to the hands-on coal-face Field Staff. Every day and every night they do the most horrible job in society and I appreciate Minister LoPo' recently acknowledging this.
However when impossible workloads cannot be handled the way staff would like to handle them, when commitment and the strongest devotion to duty cannot overcome the unconscionable demands, then begin the disciplinary interviews.

So intent is DOCS to crucify front-line staff and junior managers that it has now hired a private sector Barrister to conduct disciplinary interviews. The Department has deemed him to be a "temporary public servant". So much for having no money.

If there was ever a demonstration of shredding from a department whatever morsel of morale may be still there, this is it.
DOCS must be almost beyond repair. I ask Minister LoPo' to take the scalpel to the senior mal-administrators of DOCS before the Department becomes a lemming.
