Aboriginal Education Assistants’ name change

"That the PSA Executive endorse the decision of the Schools Departmental Committee and agree to a change to the Crown Employees (School Administrative and Support Staff) Award so that our members who work with students from an Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander background become known as Aboriginal Education Officers."

The PSA have been negotiating with the Department of Education and Training to achieve a change to the classification name of Aboriginal Education Assistants. This will affect our members in schools who work with students from an Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander background.

The proposed name is "Aboriginal Education Officer".

The Association has consulted with members, the Aboriginal Education Assistants Working Group and the Schools Departmental Committee who have all agreed to the change of name as suggested.

The Crown Employees (School Administrative and Support Staff) Award is due to be reviewed under S19 of the Industrial Relations Act 1996 and it is proposed to change the classification name as part of that review.
