Earlier this year the NSW Fire Brigade (NSWFB) made an announcement that they were going to withdraw the long standing practice of non-forfeiture of working hours.

After extensive negotiations agreement was finally reached on a form of words to go out to staff, encouraging all to reduce their excess hours balance over the coming 12 months period.

Despite this agreement the Commissioner released a memorandum reneging on our agreement and advising staff that they would be forfeiting their excess hours.

The PSA responded by withdrawing from the JCC process and issued a newsletter to our members asking them to avoid working excessive hours and to submit claims for overtime if required to work.

After a further meeting with the Commissioner the NSWFB has retracted it earlier position and the Association is to participate in further meetings aimed at putting mechanisms in place to prevent the working of excessive hours.
