Pre-School accreditation

Executive, 29 January 2008

Decision

Report adopted

Report

A new government regulation will come into operation on 1 July 2008 which will require all government pre-schools to be accredited by the Department of Community Services (DOCS).

PSA members and delegates raised concerns that compliance with accreditation may result in a change in work practices, recruitment or screening processes.

A meeting has been held with the Director of the Early Childhood and Interagency Programs section of the DET who provided an outline of the impacts of pre school accreditation. The PSA has been assured that the accreditation process and impacts will not result in any changes affecting our members. There will be no changes in reporting, work practices, screening or recruitment.

The only change that will be evident to staff is the DOCS staff will visit the pre schools for short periods of time to ensure compliance.
