Crown Employees (Public Service Training Wage) Award 2005

The NSW Industrial Relations Commission has varied the Crown Employees (Public Service Training Wage) Award 2005 with the consent of the parties to allow departments to offer traineeships for a broader range of Diploma level qualifications than just the Information Technology Diploma currently in the award.

The variation to the award broadens the range of Diploma level traineeships to allow greater opportunities for entrants to the NSW Public Service to obtain a nationally accredited qualification under the Vocational Education and Training system. Public Service departments have expressed interest in offering traineeships for Diploma qualifications that meet their workforce requirements and are cost effective.

The PSA had made the application to vary the award to support the proposal by the NSW Public Sector Industry Training Advisory Body to the Department of Education and Training for Vocational Training Orders for new Diploma level traineeships under the Public Sector Training Package (PSP04) as follows:

Diploma of Government (Financial Services)
Diploma of Government (Service Delivery)
Diploma of Government (Management)
Diploma of Government (Project Management)
Diploma of Government (Land Administration)

The Department of Education and Training requires that an industrial instrument be in place to provide appropriate salaries and conditions for trainees before approving Vocational Training Orders. The variation to the award is broad enough to allow for Vocational Training Orders to be made in future for other Diploma level qualifications from any relevant Training Package.
