Conversion of School Support Officer positions

Central Council, February 2007

Decision

"That Central Council endorses the agreement between the Public Service Association and the Department of Education and Training to transition School Support Officers to School Administrative Officers as agreed by the Schools Departmental Committee".

Report

Central Council agreed in December 2006 that the PSA continue discussions with the Department of Education and Training to allow School Support Officer positions to be converted to School Administrative Officer positions (CC124/06).

Discussions have been held with the Department and they have agreed to the PSA request to convert these staff who would continue to earn the same amount of income but work less hours.

These new arrangements will be effective from the first day of the 2007 school year. The transition will ensure that the agreed staffing operation procedure will still operate fairly and no member should be disadvantaged. From the time that School Support Officers become School Administrative Officers they will be eligible to transfer to School Administrative Officer positions in other schools.

The Schools Departmental Committee has supported this transition
