Second Round: Salary Overpayment Notifications in DADHC

22 August 2008

The Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care has advised the PSA that approximately 1000 staff were incorrectly overpaid in 2008.

Only part-time Residential Support Workers that did not work or were not rostered to work ordinary hours on the following public holidays were affected:

  • 28th January 2008
  • 21st March 2008
  • 22nd March 2008
  • 24th March 2008
Affected staff will receive a salary overpayment notification on or about 21st August or 4th September, 2008.

If you receive this notification, then please do the following:

  1. Inspect your payslips carefully to make sure that the overpayment amount is correct.

BusinessLink will provide these to you with the notification letter. They will also highlight where the overpayments have been made.

  2. Contact your Network Manager if you believe a mistake has been made and then the Business Service Centre if necessary.

  3. Ask for a reference number for this call so that the PSA can follow-up on your matter if it is not resolved.

  4. When you are completely satisfied that the overpayment amount is correct, then complete the deduction authority form to arrange how to repay the gross amount.
You can elect to repay the amount in full OR you have the right to negotiate to pay it off gradually by making fortnightly instalments from your pay.

For example, you may negotiate to pay back the amount at $10.00 a fortnight, deducted from your pay.

If you are already paying back a previous overpayment amount, then write on the deduction authority form that you would like to amalgamate the overpayments. That way, you can maintain your existing repayment arrangements without the need to deduct more money from your pay each fortnight.

For further information please contact your Organiser at the PSA on (02) 9220 0968.

Authorised by John Cahill, General Secretary, Public Service Association of NSW, 160 Clarence Street, Sydney NSW 2001.
