Police GASO Positions Update07 May 2008The Public Service Association of NSW (PSA), the NSW Police Force and the Police Association appeared on Monday 5 May before President Boland of the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC). Following a request from the PSA for more time to collect and collate information from members, President Boland directed the parties to report back to the IRC on Friday 27 May 2008. At today's hearing, the Police Association advised that the GASO trial had thrown up numerous examples of sworn officers picking up civilian duties at LACs, despite the NSW Police Force's assurances that there would be no reduction in front counter coverage in police stations. The PSA is aware of other examples where PSA members have been affected by a reduction in staff and lack of sufficient training before being rostered to perform the various new and additional duties expected of GASOs on the front counter or in the administrative and court processing areas. We are quite certain that there are other examples around the State of members being affected by the GASO implementation but we need you to tell us where and what they are. If the changes at your LAC have led to increased workloads, reduction in front counter coverage or inadequate training, we urge you to contact us with specific information before the 20th May 2008 so that we can bring them to the attention of the IRC. Please encourage sworn officers to raise their concerns with the Police Association. Should you wish to discuss these matters, please contact PSA Organisers, Sharon Richards or Chris Papadopoulos on 9220 0947, or Industrial Officer, Lisa Nelson.
