Police - IRC recommendation on GASO positions in Local Area Commands

07 February 2008

Dear Members

In accordance with the recommendations from Justice Boland of the Industrial Relations Commission of New South Wales, the PSA and Police management attended a meeting at the Hurstville Local Area Command in order to better identify issues and problems arising out of the GASO proposal.

It is clear to the PSA that numerous issues remain outstanding and that the proposal that has been put forward by Police management should not proceed in its current format. These problems include the following:

  1. Work previously undertaken by redundant GASOs, CPOs and COs;
  2. Duties and tasks to be undertaken by the newly created GASO position;
  3. The recruitment process;
  4. Displaced officers;
  5. Lateral transfers and transfers;
  6. Hours of work, roster arrangements, flexible work hours and shift work;
  7. The grading and remuneration of GASO positions.

The above is just a sample of issues that were raised by concerned members at the meeting attended at Hurstville today.

I therefore ask all members to refrain from filling in any documentation provided to them by management in relation to voluntary redundancy and the redeployment into a GASO position.

The PSA will issue a further bulletin following the Report Back which is scheduled for 2.30 pm tomorrow afternoon, Friday 8 February 2008.

Should you wish to discuss these matters prior to the Report Back, please contact PSA A/Industrial Officer Paul Toole or PSA Organiser Chris Papadopoulos on 9290 1555 or police@psa.asn.au
