RTA Sydney Harbour Bridge & Tunnel Tolls Staffing

13 June 2007

Members will be aware of the RTA proposal to reorganise the RTA Tolls staffing from the Sydney Harbour Tunnel to the Harbour Bridge. The 6 June 2007 proposal was considered by your PSA delegates and PSA officers at a meeting on the 7 June 2007.

The proposal was considered to be unacceptable as it sought to displace affected staff and gave no certainty about how Voluntary redundancy would be offered or what new rosters would operate for all staff post 8 July 2007.

The PSA wrote to the RTA CEO immediately and requested the proposal be withdrawn and that negotiations recommence to secure a more suitable agreement.

The RTA agreed to this request at 4pm 7 June and offered a meeting for 13 June 2007.

The PSA now advises following today's meeting that the RTA has agreed to the following-

  1. A notice to staff will be circulated to seek advice from those staff that would be willing to consider an offer to accept Voluntary Redundancy (VR). The notice will also contain details of the VR and redeployment entitlements for staff currently contained in the RTA Human resources policy.

If members are seriously considering applying for VR then the Expression of Interest form should be filled in and returned to management.

Please note this does not guarantee VR it will assist the RTA in planning ongoing transitional and permanent staffing arrangements. The final VR process timing will be subject to ongoing negotiations.

The next meeting is planned for the 29 June 2007. That gives staff 2 weeks to consider an expression of interest.

  2. Once the expressions of interests have been returned the RTA and PSA will negotiate ongoing transitional arrangements for the post 8 July removal of manual tolls from the Tunnel and the relocation of affected staff to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This will eventually determine ongoing rostering for all staff.

As a result of this agreed process. The PSA will hold meetings of members as follows to enable a full briefing of members with regards to this proposal:

RTA SHB Southside 1.30pm 19 June 2007 Meal room

RTA Milsons Point 1.30pm 20 June 2007 Meal room

This is an opportunity for you to be properly informed about your rights and ongoing conditions of employment so please attend.
