Parliament – Building Services restructure

26 September 2006

Individual managers in Building Services have been discussing proposals for restructure with staff in a way which implied that the proposal was final when in fact it was not.

The manner in which the proposals were discussed totally denied the commitments made by the Clerks that they will seek to reach agreement with the PSA on the proposals before implementing the restructure proposal.

The action of the manager in question is totally inappropriate and unacceptable to the PSA. We have written to the Clerks advising of the relevant incidents and action has been taken to ensure the situation does not arise again.

However, we are still awaiting a response on what action will be taken to ensure that the individual managers concerned understand that their actions were inappropriate.

Discussions with Managers

Therefore we recommend that all PSA members do not discuss any matter concerning the restructure of Parliament House, redundancies or any future arrangement of your department with your manager under any circumstances.

If your manager approaches you please advise them that you require a union representative to be present for any discussions.

We then recommend that you contact your delegate Grant Sheen or women's contact Denise Byrne, or Organiser Kate Walenkamp from PSA head office, and arrange for their attendance and advice.

Please feel free to contact any PSA representative with any questions or concerns, including:
Grant Sheen, delegate, 9230 2013 or 0437762744
Kate Walenkamp, PSA Organiser, 9220 0929 or 0408 278 334
Denise Byrne, delegate, 9230 2288
