Parliament -- enhanced redundancy provisions

21 September 2006

A meeting of PSA members in Food and Beverage Services (FBS) voted on 20 September 2006 to accept the TRANSITIONAL arrangements proposed to be implemented until the end of November 2006.

This allows for voluntary redundancies to be offered to those FBS staff who have submitted an expression of interest in a voluntary redundancy.

It does not commit the PSA or FBS staff to management's ONGOING restructure proposal.

The PSA is pleased to advise our members that management have agreed to include Job Search Leave and a Job Assist Scheme in the offer of voluntary redundancy. Usually, these payments are decided upon a case-by-case basis and are granted according to each person's situation. However the Presiding Officers have agreed to include these additional benefits in each voluntary redundancy package. The amount of these allowances will be calculated using the scale used for MP's staff.

Staff in FBS will now have access to the same provisions as that offered to MPs' staff when they are separated from service.

Details of these improved provisions are:

JOB SEARCH LEAVE

The scale for Job Search Leave ranges from a minimum of 6 weeks for staff who have less than 4 years service up to a maximum of 12 weeks for staff who have over 12 years service.

Specific entitlement is as follows:

  • Staff who have less than 4 years service are entitled to 6 weeks Job Search Allowance.
  • Staff who have between 4 to 8 years service are entitled to 8 weeks Job Search Allowance
  • Staff who have between 8 to 12 years service are entitled to 10 weeks Job Search Allowance
  • Staff who have 12 years + are entitled to 12 weeks Job Search Allowance.

JOB ASSIST SCHEME

The improved Job Assist Scheme provisions are as follows:
  • Less than 4 years service = $2500
  • Between 4 to 8 years service = $3500
  • Between 8 to 12 years service = $4000
  • Between 12+ years service = $5000
Please note that the Job Assist Scheme is a payment that is made on a reimbursement basis, i.e. you will be reimbursed an amount up to the maximum allowed for your length of service for money you spend in seeking alternative employment. Details of how this scheme works will be provided by management.

Please note that if you are retiring from work altogether, the Job Search Leave and Job Assist Scheme provisions do not apply to you. They only apply to those staff actively seeking employment.

ONGOING RESTRUCTURE PROPOSAL

The PSA has requested further information from management on the restructure proposal, including a detailed list of expected duties for each position. The additional information will enable PSA members to have greater say in the proposal. Negotiations about the proposed restructure will not commence until sufficient information is supplied.

Should you have any questions please contact Kate Walenkamp at the PSA on 02 9220 0929 or Stefan Petkov on 02 9230 2298.
