SASS North West Region News04 September 2006SAS Staff Recognition WeekI hope your SAS Staff Recognition Week 2006 was enjoyable and positive for everyone. What a great opportunity to promote the excellent work done in schools by SAS Staff and to increase our school communities' awareness of our integral role in the provision of public education. Don't forget to send your stories and photos of your celebrations to the PSA in Sydney for inclusion in Red Tape.
Recruitment CompetitionIn conjunction with SASS Recognition Week, the PSA is running a Recruitment Competition with a great prize of $500 cash plus a weekend's accommodation at a Hunter Valley winery villa. Entry is easy - just sign up new PSA members. Each new member you sign up entitles you to one competition entry. Attach an entry form to each new membership form you send to Sydney, to register. Don't forget that the PSA is responsible for achieving the increases in pay and conditions we all enjoy, so encourage all your colleagues to become active members of our Union.
Changes to Your DetailsIf you have changed your private address, the school in which you work or your category of employment, please contact the Membership section of the PSA in Sydney on 1800 467 932 to update your records.
Professional Learning for SASSEach Education Region in the State has an established Reference Group to plan the provision of Professional Learning opportunities for SASS.The New England Regional SASS Reference Group (NERSRG) comprises SASS from all categories of employment from right across the Region, and was responsible for the successful SASS Forum held in Tamworth in March. Planning is well underway for next year's Forum, as well as for a number of other training opportunities to be held across the Region. The RSRG has welcomed the news that the PSA has convinced the DET to make $2m available for SASS Professional Learning, as this opens up the number and variety of opportunities we are able to offer to SASS. Negotiations are still happening between the PSA and DET, but we expect details of the release of the money to the RSRG to be made available very soon. This is great news for SASS as we have had very little access to financial resources in the past, and our opportunities for Professional Learning have been subsequently limited.
