School bans lifted - direction to members01 December 2005$4 Million for School Administrative Support -- talks to continueFollowing the placing of bans on various administrative tasks in schools, the Department lodged a dispute in the New South Wales Industrial Relations Commission on Friday 25th November. The PSA was ordered to attend a compulsory conference on Monday 28th November. The Department remains uncommitted to the implementation of the School Support Officer (Grade One) position across all schools and continues to put forward unsatisfactory alternatives. During the negotiations the PSA was concerned about the end of year workload for members and the possibility of losing the money already allocated to introduce School Support Officers. Thus we agreed to lift the bans in return for the immediate allocation of $4 million across all schools and a continuation of meaningful discussions about the introduction of School Support Officer - Grade 1. Accordingly, members are directed to lift the bans imposed on 23 November, 2005. Schools will receive their share of the $4 million in the next few days to be used by School Administrative Officers and School Administrative Managers to assist with workloads. As outlined in previous bulletins the introduction of the School Support Officer position arose from the Work Overload Campaign and was incorporated in the new Award. We are extremely frustrated that the Department continues to behave badly on the issue of introducing this new classification. The PSA will continue talks with the Department over the next few weeks. The PSA is committed to the introduction of Grade One positions in all schools except small schools with less than one full-time officer. In small schools, the allocation will be used to increase the hours of the School Admin Manager. The parties are due to report back to the Industrial Commission on December 16th.
