TAFE Sydney Institute flexible working hours

18 August 2005

The PSA met with Marty Burgess, Acting College Director and Peter Carnegie, Acting HR Regional Director on 11 August 2005. Various issues in relation to the "realignment" of work were discussed plus recruitment policy and procedures.

Members are advised that the flexible work agreement negotiated with DET/TAFE NSW conforms to standard Public Service Agreements and the NSW Government's "family friendly workplaces" policy.

You can start anytime between 7.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and finish anytime between 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Should Managers and Supervisors try to implement other arrangements or introduce rosters then these must be negotiated on a purely "VOLUNTARY BASIS". The Union will not tolerate its members being directed to start and finish at set times or be put on set rosters. Neither does the Agreement allow for Managers/Supervisors to demand five days' notice before taking flexi leave.

Flexi leave and banked time can be taken in conjunction with other forms of leave, e.g. recreation and extended.

For further details:

ALL MEMBERS SHOULD CHECK THE DET/TAFE FLEXIBLE WORKING HOURS AGREEMENT ON THE DET/TAFE INTRANET SITE.

A further meeting is to be held with senior management where these and other issues will be discussed.

The "Dignity and Respect in the Workplace Charter" should be signed by DET/TAFE NSW and the PSA within a few weeks and will be implemented across TAFE Institutes. The DET/TAFE Code of Conduct requires all staff to treat each other in a professional and dignified manner.

Should members be refused any reasonable request to take a flexi day or banked time or any other form of leave advise your PSA Organiser, Irene Macbeth on 9220 0985 or imacbeth@psa.asn.au
