School General Assistants' Newsletter & Survey03 September 2004Changes to Cleaning ContractsChanges have been made to Government Cleaning contracts and a new cleaning contract is being trialled in the Riverina and Central Coast. The Association has met with the Director General about this issue and it has been confirmed that these changes will not affect General Assistant's duties or workload. At the General Assistants Advisory Group the following recommendation was passed: "...General Assistants will not undertake any cleaning duties..."General Assistants should support any strike action that cleaning staff may take by refusing to take on cleaning duties when cleaners are on strike. The Association has established a special team to look after this case and is currently waiting for hearing dates to be set in the Industrial Relations Commission.Annual General MeetingThe next general meeting will be the Annual General Meeting on November 10.
