This special edition of Keynotes details the main features of the agreement over the three new jails -- Kempsey, Dillwynia and Wellington.
The Department of Corrective Services, under pressure from Treasury to cut costs, was on the verge of recommending private operation of these jails. The PSA, in particular the POVB Executive, has been able to negotiate an agreement which keeps the three jails in public sector with prison officers being covered by the PSA and with PSA rates and conditions.
