ODPP: SYDNEY OFFICE STOP WORK MEETING07 May 2003The PSA is in dispute with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions over staffing levels in the Office. PSA members at the DPP's Sydney office resolved last week to stop work to hear a further report from the PSA following the report back to the NSW Industrial Relations Commission this morning. The stop work will be Thursday morning, May 8. Before the Commission this morning, the PSA expressed our disappointment at the lack of progress that has been made in the dispute since we last reported there on 14 April. The PSA reported that we believe the ODPP has given up on attempting to obtain more staffing for the Office in the foreseeable future. We asked Justice Glynn to conciliate in the matter. As a result, a conciliation conference will take place at 4.15pm tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, 7 May. Her Honour was informed this morning that our members intend to stop work on Thursday morning. No recommendation was made by Her Honour in respect of that intention. The PSA believes that our members are justified in the frustration and anger that is felt at the failure of the ODPP and Treasury to effectively progress this matter, and that it remains appropriate that we report back to members after proceedings tomorrow afternoon. Accordingly, all members employed by the ODPP to work in Sydney are directed to stop work at 9.30 am. on Thursday 8 May, and assemble outside the District Court (Criminal) at the Downing Centre, Liverpool Street, Sydney to hear a report from officers of the PSA, and to determine the next appropriate course of action by the Association. Members are to remain there until directed otherwise. The PSA anticipates that members will return to work later that morning.
